What Time Does the NQ Futures Market Open?
NQ futures (E-mini Nasdaq-100) trade on the CME Globex electronic platform nearly 24 hours per day, five days per week. Understanding when each session starts, when volume peaks, and when to avoid trading is essential for NQ day traders.

The best times to trade NQ
08:30–10:30 CT: The opening drive
This is where 50–60% of the day's range is established. The cash market opens at 08:30 CT, institutional order flow hits, and the market decides its direction. Most NQ day traders do the majority of their trading in this window.
09:00–09:30 CT: Economic data releases
Major economic reports (CPI, NFP, ISM, etc.) are released at either 07:30 or 09:00 CT. These can produce 50–200+ point moves in minutes. The NQ815 economic calendar flags the exact times each morning.
12:00–13:00 CT: The lunch chop
Volume drops 40–60% during lunch. Spreads widen slightly. This is the worst time to trade NQ. Breakout traders get chopped, and scalpers face unfavourable fill rates. Many experienced traders simply stop between 12:00 and 13:00.
14:00–15:00 CT: The power hour
Volume returns for the final hour. Institutions rebalance, algorithms execute MOC (market on close) orders, and the day's trend either extends or reverses. This window often produces the second-best trading opportunities after the open.
When is the NQ market closed?
NQ futures close daily from 16:00–17:00 CT (one hour). Over weekends, the market closes at 16:00 CT on Friday and reopens at 17:00 CT on Sunday. US market holidays (Christmas, New Year's, Independence Day, etc.) may have modified hours or full closures — check the CME Group holiday calendar.
The NQ815 schedule
The NQ815 pre-market pulse publishes at 08:15 CT every weekday — 15 minutes before the cash market opens. This gives you time to review the bias, key levels, and playbook before the opening drive begins.
